Kamil Oshundara (they/them) is a Black, trans, multi-disciplinary artist and Olorisha (priest) of the Yoruba Ifa tradition. Kamil has been initiated to Ifa for a decade and has been studying as a junior priest of Shango for nearly 6 years. As a genre writer (horror, sci-fi, fantasy) and artist, Kamil infuses Ifa and indigenous ancestry into their work to elevate the representation of African traditional religions in mainstream media. They often use their social media to share information on Orisha-based spirituality and can be found on social media as @k6mil.
“EARTH BASED,” is an introductory workshop that intends to demystify the foundation of Orisha-based spirituality. This session helps participants make distinctions between stereotypical views of god as the embodiment of “man” versus Afro-indigenous traditions that honor deities as spirits of nature.
In alignment with the Yoruba Ifa tradition, participants will leave with the ability to identify what sacred organic elements and natural spaces are aligned with the different Orisha and how to connect to these spirits without/or prior to initiation.
